On Saturday, the 11th June our research vessel s/y Oceania left Gdansk for her next cruise to Spitsbergen. The Arctic sea will see our sailing ship with her new look. See how is she gracefull with her new sails!

Info from Head of the expedition (stage 1: Gdansk-Tromso) Przemyslaw Makuch (Physical Oceanography Department IO PAN):

We sailed noon with saying good-bye by our relatives and the board of the Institute. The cruise is started with unpacking and proper stowing of research equipment. We had to be quick as in 3 hours after our departure the first sampling station located in Gdansk Deep was waiting for us. At this station, using the zooplankton net, we were collected the zooplankton from the water column and the water sample from six levels by bathymeter, in order to determine the organic carbon, chlorophyll and nutrients. The work at that station was quite hard as it was very windy. At the end of our first day we finaly had free time to watch films or play games or just went for a rest after the tired hole proceeding week spent on preparation to the trip (blog in Polish at soon)
